DNA: Discounted Jewelry Offered in NY Chinatown for Valentine’s Day

It may be the weekend, but in New York Chinatown, merchants have declared this jewelry week. Modeled after such promotions as Restaurant Week, Chinatown jewelers are offering deep discounts leading up to Valentine’s  Day.

“We are hoping people are going to fall in love with Chinatown and shop in Chinatown,” said event organizer Julie Huang, who also heads up Chinatown Restaurant Week, held in March.

“It is the most diverse group of businesses inside of Chinatown,” she said to DNA.  “Not everyone is Chinese — Italian, Irish, Cuban and many others have been doing this for generations.”

The Chinatown jewelers say their quality is as good as in the diamond district and promise the prices are even better.
