Mercury News: Linsanity An Inspiration to NBA’s First Basketball Player of Color–Wat Misaka

posted by Randall

Misaka, WatWat Misaka has a special interest in Jeremy Lin. In 1947, the Japanese American player from Utah played for the New York Knicks to  become the first minority to play in the NBA.

So seeing the rise of Linsanity carries special meaning for Misaka.

“It really made me feel good that he was getting all the attention that he deserved,” he told the Mercury News.

Misaka finally got a chance to meet Lin before the Houston Rockets game against the Utah Jazz.

“He was big,” Misaka said of the 6-3, 200 pound guard. “Especially since I’ve shrunk four inches since my playing days.”

The two exchanged pleasantries, but really didn’t get a chance to talk much.

Meanwhile a documentary on Jeremy simply titled Linsanity has received rave reviews at Sundance and is close to getting a major distribution deal.

More on how Lin himself feels about the film in the Mercury News.
