Asian American filmmaker’s Iyin Landre says she was tired of waiting, tired of waiting for mainstream Hollywood to create meaningful parts with complex characters for Asian American actors, reports AA Press.
So she decided to kickstart her own movie.
About two months ago, she set out to raise $76,000 for her film Me & You. She would star, write and produce the film which centers around an American girl who travels to Rio and falls in love with a drug dealer.

And she did it. She raised the money. Hopefully Landre will no longer have to wait for someone to offer her a part that doesn’t ask her to put on a fake Asian accent or to play a nail salon lady.
“In order to change stereotypes, we can’t just complain about it, we have to create new images and tell new stories to replace them with. We have to define ourselves, instead of letting others define us.”
Landre hopes to complete Me & You in early 2015.
