Filipino Americans were honored last night at the third annual The Outstanding Filipino Americans in New York (TOFA-NY) Awards, reports Yahoo.
Among the many receiving special recognition were US-based fashion designer Monique Lhuillier( pictured), Filipino-African soul musician Joe Bataan, Pinay beauty queen-model and Rockette Christine Sienicki and nurse Menchu de Luna Sanchez who helped to save 20 babies during Hurricane Sandy.
New York is home to 300,000 Filipino Americans and the award ceremony is the culmination in the state of Filipino American History Month.
Lhullier and Bataan received the Heritage Award given for their consistent community engagement.
Sienicki won in the entertainment category and Sanchez in the health care category.
