Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee tripped all over himself trying to cater to the right wing voters of the Republican party.
In a tweet sent out during the Democratic debate last night, the former Arkansas Governor couldn’t resist telling a dog joke while referencing North Korea.
“I trust Bernie Sanders with my tax dollars like I trust a North Korean chef with my labrador.”

Huckabee only dug himself a bigger hole when he followed that with “poor liberals think its racist to deplore a brutal dictatorship. #DemDebate” It’s obvious he hasn’t a clue about why dog jokes are offensive to Asian Americans.

So while the Republican Party leaders try to open their arms to embrace minority voters, their candidates do everything they can to close those arms with dog jokes with calls for ending birth citizenship (Donald Trump) and remarks about “anchor babies” being an Asian problem (Jeb Bush). It’s no wonder Republicans have trouble attracting minority voters.
Unfortunately, there’s plenty of people out there who agree with that line of thinking. Huckabee’s original tweet garnered nearly 7,000 favorites. His follow up tweet sent out two hours ago has so far generated 400 favorites.
