Chicago Tribune: Muslim Family Kicked Off Plane Wants Apology from United

Muslim Family asked to get off plane
Pilot asks Muslim family to get off plane

A Muslim family of five kicked off a Sky West flight out of Chicago’s Ohare Airport for “security reasons” is demanding an apology from United, the parent company of Skywest, reports the Chicago Tribune.

The mother posted video of the incident on Facebook along with a comment condemning the airline.

“Shame on you #unitedAirlines for profiling my family and me for no reason other than how we look and kicking us off the plane for ‘safety flight issues’ on our flight to DC for the kids spring break,” she posted. “My three kids are too young to have experienced this.”

The incident started when the family asked for an extra strap to secure their child’s booster seat.

A flight attendant subsequently took the booster seat away and the pilot, as you saw in the video, would later ask the family to leave the plane.

United released a statement saying the family was asked to leave the plane “because of concerns about their child’s safety seat, which did not comply with federal safety regulations.”

The Council of American Islamic Relations says the family wants an apology, employee anti-discrimination training and reimbursement for their flight.
