The San Francisco Board of Supervisors this week approved a Filipino Cultural Heritage District in the South of Market, reports GMA.

The creation of SoMa Pilipina will give the Filipino American community a greater say in the development of the South of Market neighborhood, said Supervisor David Campos.

Filipinos in San Francisco originally settled in what is now known as the city’s financial district, but were displaced by high rises.

Plans include educational centers, clinics; an employment center, and a Filipino American counseling and treatment team at SoMa Mental Health Services.
