ABC7: Japanese American Community Prepares to Mobilize Disaster Relief for Japan Quake Victims

Japan Earthquake 2016

Japanese American families throughout the country are watching with intense interest for any news coming from earthquake-struck Japan, reports ABC7.

A 7.0 earthquake struck Friday, just one day after a 6.5 powerful tremor on Kyushu Island. Together the earthquakes have killed at least 32 people.

Jiro Shinto has a sister who live in the Kumamoto prefecture, the area struck by the latest tremors.

He is very worried even though his sister lives further away from the worst hit areas.

Some in the Japanese American community are already mobilizing a relief effort the same way they did five years ago after an earthquake and tsunami in East Japan left nearly 16,000 people dead.

“So now another earthquake hits, it’s really hard to get people to give for another event but of course we’ll try,” said Allen Okamoto with the Japanese Cultural and Community Center.

  1. RE: Japanese American community prepares to mobilize disaster relief for Japan quake victims: This is looking bad and we need to get help from across the world. This site I am presenting is a good place to look for NGOs to help out. Please do what you can. http://donate-japan.com/direct.html
