More than 100 students, faculty and staff attended an outdoor memorial service to remember Tarishi Jain, a 19-year old UC Berkeley student killed in the terrorist attack in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

KQED reports everyone from Chancellor Nicholas Dirks, Jain’s dorm roommate and friends and representatives from several campus organizations spoke.

Many in attendance held on to each other tightly and many more held back tears.

“It’s just very harrowing to wake up one day and find that it has impacted you,” says Dana Alpert, a floor-mate of Jain. “It brings ISIS to a personal level, it brings terrorism and hate in general to a personal level.”

Jain was having dinner with two friends at a restaurant when gunman attacked, killing at least 27 others. Jain’s friends were among the dead. They were identified as Faraaz Hossain and Abinta Kabir, both students from Emory College. A memorial for Hossain and Kabir is scheduled Thursday at Emory.

“I think it’s just really shocking to hear about everything that happened, especially to someone that was my age,” said campus sophomore Krupa Modi, at the memorial for Jain.

Jain was in Bangladesh for an internship. She is a native of India.
