Comic Book: Big Hero 6’s Ryan Potter Lobbies to Play Batman’s Robin

Batman with Ben Affleck
Warner Bros
Japanese American Ryan Potter who played the voice of Hiro Hamada in Big Hero 6 and is currently featured as Mike Fukanaga in Nickelodeon’s Super Ninja is lobbying hard for his next role, reports Comic Book

He’s openly campaigning to play opposite Ben Affleck in the long talked about Batman movie

It’s not easy for an Asian American to get any featured role in a big screen production, and it’s particularly hard for an Asian American man to be cast as a superhero, let alone any part perceived as masculine.

Ryan has gone public with his audition tape during which he makes a direct pitch to Affleck himself.

It’s not even official yet that Warner Bros will release a new Batman movie, but speculation is it will be released in 2018 if there is one.

Back in 2015, Potter had this to say:

“I’d love to play Dick Grayson as Robin or Nightwing on Teen Titans,” he told us. “I feel there’s not many superheroes at this moment in time that Asian American actors can play. It’s not like an Asian American COULDN’T play these roles, but I don’t think the public is ready for an Asian American Superman just yet. Unfortunately, I just don’t think there are a lot of superheroes that an Asian American can play. You even think of a superhero that’s influenced by Asian American culture, Iron Fist, and the guy behind the mask is caucasian. Hopefully there will be more for us to play in the future.”
