Prosecutor: “Evil Stepmother” in New York Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

Prosecutors say a stepmom beat her stepdaughter so badly with a broken metal broom handle, the girl’s wrist was slashed to the bone.
 
On Friday, a judge sentenced Sheetal Ranot,35, of Queens to 15 years in prison, reported the New York Daily News.
 
Ranot is also said to have starved her 12-year old so much that she dropped to 58 pounds.
 
“The defendant was the epitome of an evil stepmother,” Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. “Not only did she refuse to provide basic nourishment for the child, but the defendant also wantonly beat and abused the girl inflicting pain still evident by the scars that mark her body today.”
 
The girl’s father, Rajesh Ranot, is facing trial on similar charges.
