Daily Mail: Korean American Adoptee to be Deported

A Korean American adoptee abandoned by his first adoptive parents has been ordered deported, reports the Daily Mail, because of a criminal conviction that left him vulnerable and the fact his parents never applied for citizenship on his behalf.

Adam Crasper of Korea was adopted at the age of three along with his older sister to an American couple. That couple abandoned him 7 years later.

He spent the next two years separated from his sister, moving from foster family to foster family until he was adopted by another American couple. That couple was arrested on charges of physical child abuse, sexual abuse and rape, which they denied. The father was eventually sentenced to 90 days in jail and the mother received three years probation.

Adam got into trouble for breaking into his parent’s home, stealing a car and assaulting a roommate. This came back to haunt him when he applied for a green card. His convictions made him eligible for deportation.

Crasper who is now married with three children in Washington has been ordered deported by Judge John C. O’Dell in immigration court.

The judge had discretion to allow Crasper to remain in the country, but decided otherwise.

‘It’s heartbreaking news. I’m sure he doesn’t have any idea what he can do in Korea,’  said Dae Joong Yoon, executive director of the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium.
