There’s edgy and there’s plain stupid.
This blunder by Nordstrom Rack may fall under the latter.
The outlet store has been selling hoodies depicting the Nanking Massacre.
The International Military Tribunal estimates more than 200,000 people were killed in 1946 in one of the most painful episodes in Chinese-Japanese hostilities.
The caption in red on the hoodie reads Why Indifference and is ironically produced by the Happiness Company.
While they’re at it, why don’t they start producing hoodies with photos from the Nazi Holocaust?
The hoodie is supposedly sold out, and Nordstrom Rack has pulled it from sale after an avalanche of protest on its Facebook page.
The Chinese publication People’s Daily grabbed the photo before it was pulled down.
Among the comments quoted by People’s Daily “When did Nordstrom hire a Nazi designer?”
Others are calling for a boycott.
“We have removed this item from our site and updated our process so that this type of item isn’t offered in the future,” Nordstrom wrote on its Facebook page.
