ABC7: Seniors Ride Casino Bus to Earn Money

Casino busA large group of Asian American seniors are doing what they have to do to pay the bills and put a meal on their table.

ABC7 reports the seniors have come up with a creative scheme just to earn 18 dollars a day.

They ride the bus from New York City to Sands Casino in Bethlehem to earn $45 in free casino credits. They then sell those credits for $38. Subtract the cost of their bus ride and their profit is $18. The bus ride is four hours both ways. There’s also a five hour wait for the ride home.

Sang Ki Chun, of Flushing said in Korean he does it to make ends meet.

The city’s Mayor’s office says Asian Americans have the highest rate of poverty of any group at 26 percent.

“They are hidden homeless, that they are doubling up or tripling up living in these cubicles…that they share with ten people within a one bedroom apartment for example,” said Chris Kui of Asian Americans for Equality.
