Could the elevation of Hoda Kotb to co-host of the first two hours of Today with Savannah Guthrie lead to the return of Ann Curry?
That’s the speculation reported by Inquisitr, a global news aggregator which claims 40 million readers a month. The website cites a story from Life and Style Magazine.
“There is talk now of bringing Ann back,” the unnamed insider told Life and Style. “They’ve always felt Ann was an incredibly likeable colleague. They feel there’s a place for her.”
The talk comes as Curry is set to make her return to national TV. Her six part program We’ll Meet Again debuts on PBS January 23. By now Curry’s departure from Today has been well documented. The tension between Curry and her then co-host Matt Lauer became apparent when on Curry’s farewell show on Today, Laurer reached over to kiss Curry and she flinched.
With Laurer’s departure after sexual harassment charges emerged, why not bring back Curry who has maintained her popularity despite leaving the national broadcast.
Kotb has been serving as co-anchor of Today’s fourth hour. The Oklahoma-born Kotb whose parents are from Egypt has made numerous appearances at the annual conference of the Asian American Journalists Association and has also been a featured guest at AAJA’s J-Camp, the annual multi-day seminar for high school students of color interested in a career in journalism.
