CATEGORIES

City College of San FranciscoIn a big blow to Asian American students and affordable education, the Accreditation Committee of Schools and Colleges has voted to strip City College of San Francisco of its accreditation.

47 percent of Asian Americans college students attend a community college nationwide and CCSF has been designated as an Asian American Pacific Islander Serving Institution.

According to KGO TV,  the committee found CCSF fell short in 11 of 14 areas including eligibility, finances, ethics, leadership and governance.

The school will close in July 2014 unless they are successful at appealing it.

In a statement, Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) said “It is a matter of educational justice. CCSF is a valuable resource for students who want to continue their education at CSU or UC or start a new career. Attending CCSF can be a new beginning, a shot at finally getting that GED, a chance to learn English, or acquire a skill that leads to meaningful employment.
