Divyendu Sinha and his wife AlkaThe acquittals of two men for murder and aggravated assault in the beating death of Divyendu Sinha (pictured with his wife Alka) in Old Bridge, New Jersey  is drawing outrage in the Indian American community, reports NJ.com.

An event organized by leaders in the community is planned for this afternoon.

“This was an unbelievable miscarriage of justice,” wrote the organizers. “The Indian American community is very upset and shocked at this verdict. Normally our people are peace loving with lots of tolerances, but this time many people are very upset and want to protest the verdict and demand for justice. We want the prosecutor to challenge the verdict in a higher court.”

Sinha was walking with his family including two small children when he was attacked by four teenagers in 2010. Sinha died after a massive hemorrhage.

Two men have been convicted of aggravated assault, but acquitted on the more serious charges. Three others face sentences under a plea bargain. All five are scheduled to be sentenced this Friday.

You can read about the demands of those upset about the verdict and what they’ve done so far, along with the possible sentences for the five men on NJ.com.
