A toddler who lost her twin sister before the age of one is in need of a lung transplant that will save her own life, reports WCPO.
Suzu Kaneda traveled from Japan with her parents Masahiro and Kaori Kaneda to Cincinnati for the life saving surgery.
Both Suzu and her twin Saya were diagnosed with a condition that caused a blockage in her vessels that makes it difficult to get blood from the lungs back to the heart.
Saya died before she turned one. Suzu is so sick her plane almost had to return to Japan in mid-flight. She underwent successful emergency surgery almost as soon as she landed.
She must still be evaluated to see if she is a candidate for lung transplant.
“It’s such a heart-wrenching story for anybody who knows about it,” Anne Golden of the Japan American Society of Greater Cincinnati said.
